The current research program of CRRP includes study of meteorological elements like temperature, dew point temperature, pressure, freezing level height, cloud liquid water, latent heat, precipitable water, radar reflectivity factor, rainfall, radar bright band height and intensity.

CRRP uses surface and upper air meteorological elements data and hourly rainfall data from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Automatic weather station (AWS) data and Tropical Rain Monitoring Mission (TRMM) data. Other satellite data will also be included when needed.
