Meteorological problems need expertise from various fields like Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics and Electronics & Communication. Hence it is necessary that people working in the field of rainfall and radio wave propagation work together. Also of equal importance is to tackle a particular problem in meteorology from different angles, especially in a country like India having diverse climatological conditions. But as a matter of fact people of different streams hardly interact effectively to look into a problem related to any field of science and technology. Of course as an exception some organizations have strong inter departmental interaction and they have excelled: As quoted by Dr. Narayana moorthy, ISRO, Bangalore, ‘‘Often the solution lies within our reach, inside our organization but we seek help from external agencies’’.

While perusing the course of my Doctoral Dissertation at J. K. Institute of Applied Physics, Allahabad University and over the next decade an idea has been being deep rooted in my mind that perhaps we keep searching solution in an isolated manner, being enclosed in the narrow periphery looking at a particular problem from a single angle. Hence some mysteries remain mysteries for eras and sometimes centuries. Hence I felt the need to bring people together, especially in the area of atmospheric science and that too in a riddle like rain which shows large spatial and temporal variation. Who knows that the mystery does not unveil itself may be because it is viewed partially? It is like a picture viewed by many eyes. One pair of eyes sees only certain aspects but when viewed by many such pairs the overall view is obtained. Of course this is my imagination or hypothesis, whatever you call it.

Hence with an eye to bring people together working in a focused field like rainfall I dared to dream to conduct an international symposium and my dream had come true when it was conducted on 31 January 2007 in Sona premises. I believe that almost all working groups of our country had submitted their research findings in the symposium including some of the foreign organizations. As a second step to achieve the vision Sona College of Technology has signed MoU (Research) with Radio and Atmospheric Sciences Division, National Physical Research Laboratory, New Delhi, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin and Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Nigeria on 24 September 2009.

On behalf of CRRP, Sona College of Technology I welcome all the working groups in the field to perform collaborative research. It need not be by signing MoU but a group or an individual also is welcome to join CRRP, Sona in the collaborative research endeavour. Interested persons may express their willingness by online registration available in our website.
